Opportunity to get an SA58 on a trade. Don't know much about them. I know there are some serious differences that make a big change with value. My biggest question is what the "a" indicator means. The ones I have seen only had "s" & "r". The lower is steel and not aluminum. I was pretty sure the DSA SA58's were AL lowers. Correct? Thanks in advance.

SA stands for Semi Auto.

DSA stands for Dave Salvaggio Arms.

Most of the factory DSA SA 58s have aluminum lowers.

The "STG 58 kits" imported by Dave and his family by the thousands were sold by a defunct co. call "M&A Parts", subsequent batches imported were built into lower cost rifles to compete with folks like me, ARS, CGW, and many others who have come and gone in the last 10 years. Those guns were referred to as "STG 58A" and came with original steel lowers from the kits.

The upper receivers were off the shelf SA58 receivers and TTBOMK, none of them were remarked for kit builds.

Thanks! So why does it have an "A" selector position along with the "S" & "R" positions?

because it uses the original select fire lowers from parts kits, the aluminum ones I've seen only have "S" and "R". (safe and repeat)

If you have a 3 pos aluminum lower, that'd be cool and perhaps something I've missed for years.

magnet sticks to lower, so its not a 3 position aluminum lower.

My guess is that you have a kit gun built on a DSA receiver, not a DSA rifle assembled by DSA.

Your WTS FAL advertisement also shows a FA selector(not illegal, but not DSA built specs). It also has a humpback buttstock that DSA didn't have until very recently.
