So it appears that Utah, as home to John Moses Browning (peace be upon him), is considering making the venerable 1911 pistol the "official" state gun.

http://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/home/50819 ... g.html.csp

BRILLIANT! We should get behind this and have our own state gun, I think that many legislators would get behind this. The only question is, which one?

Talking around the office, the two we've considered is the Winchester Model 94 lever-action carbine, or a 12ga Coach Gun.

Any thoughts? Could the AZCDL get behind this and put a bug in someone's ear at the statehouse?

With all the AR manufacturers in the state I vote AR15.

+1

It would go along well with other Official State Symbols being:

The state flower is the white blossom of the saguaro, the largest cactus in the United States.

The palo verde meaning "green stick" is the state tree.

Arizona's state bird, the cactus wren, is brown with a speckled chest.

State Gem Stone, Torquise.

The bola tie is "a new symbol of the west," and is usually hand-made in many different shapes, sizes, and types.

Petrified wood is the state fossil

The Arizona ridge-nosed rattlesnake was the last rattlesnake to be named by herpetologists (grown-ups who study snakes).

( I was a cut and pasting machine there for a minute.)

I propose a single action revolver, like a blackhawk.

"Torquise." That's the gem that lives a long time and moves real slowly, right?

I think the Ruger Blackhawk would be a good idea. Made in AZ, but hearkens back to the old west.

Ruger .22 pistol. It's one of the most popular guns in the US, a very popular gun for people to learn on or start a collection, and it's made right here (Prescott)! Perhaps we could even promote the ownership of one for all who live here!
