Appears to be a steel door and you can't put just any steel door up. Most likely there is a USFS specification for steel outhouse doors that is likely 50 pages thick.

You're right. Screw it. We shouldn't do anything then.

Jesus. Those of you who just want to shit on this idea, stay the hell out of the thread. If you're not going to offer up help or donations, shut up.

Just to be clear, I am NOT pooping in this thread. I think it's a great idea and good for some PR. Remember my earlier post about the old Motorola Rifle & Pistol Club doing work on the NG Ranges at 52nd Street? We (a bunch of ASRPA members) did the same thing 2 years ago at BASF when the decision was made to move the CMP Western Games / Creedmoor Cup from MCB Camp Pendleton. It took several weekends but we got the HP range whipped into shape. Hadn't looked that good in years!

The same applies here. Call the USFS and tell then what you want to do. I'll bet they even offer up the materials. The NG did when we worked on the 52nd St. ranges and G&F / ASRPA reimbursed us for oout of pocket expenses at BASF. At a time when gun owners could use some positive press, this is one of them.

I think John may be right here, bringing it to their attention that responsible gun owners are interested in repairing what the irresponsible ones did might just do it. Gotta show them we're not all the same. Not like they're going to post a sentry 24/7 because someone offered to help and they don't want/need it...

Instead of replacing it, could it be covered with sheet metal or diamond plate? Bunch of one-way screws and liquid nails would hold it in place and cover up things nicely.

Just sayin...

I'd say just do it without any fanfare or notification of anyone at all. No media, no USFS. Just the folks doing the work.
Any press on this is likely to be spun to the negative side in short order.

Who's taking donations for materials?
Send me a PM if need be.

I got up to Four Peaks a little later than I expected, had more work this week than I thought. Here are the pictures that I took.

The doors are a hollow metal door and look to be a standard size. (35 5/8" wide x 79" high x 1 3/4" thick) I agree the doors and handles (lever style) need to be replaced, there are just to many holes. Then put some kind of lock on the inside for privacy. One toilet seat is missing and the other has bullet holes in it. The holes in the outside for the most part are small and there are a few that are about 6" to 8" diameter and 1" deep. I don't think it would take to long to get done with five guys but the more the merrier.

Materials-
2 doors
2 handles
2 toilet seats
2 locks
concrete patch/filler
3 gallons of white paint for the inside
6 gallons for the outside

If you would like to help out with a donation or labor, anything is much appreciated.

Thinking of doing this Aug. 28th or 29th or Sept. 12th or 13th

I not sure what else. So please let me know what you think.

Thanks.

FYI
Not all metal doors are the same, all hinge layouts will vary, I'd suggest accomplishing the fixes on concrete, and paint, perhaps toliet seat. That in itself will be quite a lot of work, and pick up some privacy knobs for the doors and leave it at that, till you can find doors that fit. They may be hard to find, and expensive if you have to buy. A door alone will run 300 bucks, without hardware.
Great idea on the repair. Just the exterior would be a huge improvement.
I think though this is the second or third time they've been shot up, hence why they are concrete now.
I can offer some parts etc, ( will check the yard for HM doors and see what I have) usually don't have doors left over, just extra frames.
good luck
RJ

Ugh, wife's due September 8th, timeframe's cutting it close, would hate to commit and have to back out. $300 for the doors is pretty hefty, but I'm in for a gallon or two of paint and I'll throw $20 in for a collection on the doors if we wanna do that.

rpk, you doing the collection on this for supplies? If so, pm me your address.

Great pics, RPKNAZ. Awesome detail! I can almost smell the place! While that is not a good thing, I was surprised at the damage your pictures showed.

I hope they tried to get prints off of the metal part of the shotgun shells. The idiots that did this need to be caught and held accountable. And not just with jail time but with hefty fines.

Catch 'em and sell their guns and related items for restitution.

Thanks, for the pics.

Looks very do-able!

I really can't contribute anything but time and tools at the moment. Either weekend works for me, but would prefer 28-29AUG as that weekend in Sept. is the last weekend of early Dove season.

I think knockonit (RJ) has a good idea about paining and putting on a couple inside locks for the doors. That would be a good improvement. Then see if we can the doors and handles at a later date. What do you guys think?

BTW - I would like to see the asshats that did this be punished.

Guy's; I'm new to the site but I have a 4000 watt Generator I'll fill with gas and I will go along to help. This gen. was used to weld before, hope its big enough. We can probably run a couple of paint sprayers off it at a time be easier than brushes and rollers. [smilie=anim_banghead.gif] Gary kaczmarekgary@hotmail.com I live in A.J. Can I carpool ??????
