This is a great ongoing story about life in Texas after an EMP strike.

I read the first one pretty quickly... very interesting - though they do seem to take a few liberties in the story. The premise is that an EMP (non Nuke) took out the ENTIRE country along with part of Mexico and part of Canada. Is there an EMP so large that it could even do such a thing?

EMPs are nukes.

There have been some studies on the matter by the .gov.

Their conclusion is that a large nuclear device (1 megaton or so) detonated adout 200 miles over the center of the US will effectively turn the lights out for a long, long time. At the same time every commercial aircraft will fall from the sky and we'll lose all orbital satellites.

EMP's are nukes, but not ALL EMP's are nukes - at least according to what I have read.

An interesting premise for sure... I'll have to go through the rest of it as I find time. Did you read all of it?

Yup, I've been reading from the beginning one chapter at a time.

New chapters are posted at www.frugalsquirrels.com

I am already through Chapter 50 - it's an addicting story, for sure.

Is anyone else even reading this?

I downloaded it awhile back, but I hate reading books on my computer. Some day I might get around to printing it up.

All nukes produce an EMP, but there are other ways of producing EMPs as well. If there was a EMP or EMP device that could knock out most of a continent, the world would have to know about it through its testing. Otherwise, such a threat only lives in theory.

I did read that Hawaii suffered some EMP damage from the nuclear testing on Bikini Atoll. Some phone lines went down as well as part of the power grid.

One would think that AF-1 would have been hardened against an EMP pulse.

I recall several Years ago when Willie C. had our boys in Bosnia they employed some smaller EMP device that hampered a large area with out Nuke fallout. Freaked out some of the NATO people as I recall.
