Ever notice that the country music industry dumps their performers after only a few years. Look at the play list on radio stations now and of 5 years ago....look 5 years before that and there'd be a different set of names again. What is it? Do they lose their creativity that fast or does the industry just discard them?

Your days are numbered Carrie Underwood!.........sorry Hansen ;)

Two words: George Strait.

Part of the equation is that 'country' music - "three chords and the truth" - is one thing, and the popabilly crap Trashville is pumping out and calling 'country' is something else entirely. Hell, Dean Martin's 'Houston' was more 'country' than 90% of what 'country' radio plays.

Sorry Jeff,
Carrie Underwood is way to pretty to be put on the shelf. As soon as her husband convinces her about a baby though, she will be gone. But she is pop country, like most of the others now. Not real country.

Got to agree with HEB (for once).
The watered down pop music on the airwaves is an insult to the country legends of the past.

Reba has had pretty good staying power also, but I agree Jeff.....There are a lot of names in C&W that seemed to initially have a good run, only to fade into the background.

That's why I don't listen to it anymore.

I grew up on Bosephus, Merle Haggard, Don Williams, Conway Twitty, Willy Nelson, Waylon Jennings and Jerry Reed. Currently, I appreciate bluegrass more, and just love listening to Grampa Jones, Del McCoury, Earl Scruggs, Ricky Skaggs and of course, Allison Krause and Union Station.

To me, that's what country music is now. Hell, some of the best tunes I've ever heard was Jerry Lee Lewis doing a little rockabilly jazzed up version of Hank Williams' stuff. Now that's a good time.

I miss Hoss, he was country through and through, and was quite versatile.

True talent will stand the test of time. George (both of 'em), and Reba have both been mentioned. Look how long Alan Jackson's been around, and Garth threw-in his OWN towel. Alabama could come out of their retirement and make HUGE bank once again. How long did Kixx go with Ronnie before their split?

I'm betting that Brad Paisley will have a long-lasting tenure. "This is Country Music" is spot-on.

Local boy Dierks has been around for a while, and did a bluegrass album as well.

My point being, turn on KNIX or KMLE today and odds are you won't hear an Alan Jackson song all day.

[smilie=icon_mi_6.gif] Big Waylon fan here too. Got to see him him in '84 when he came through Norman, OK. Great performance, incredible voice and music. The world lost a great man. [smilie=cowboy_125.gif]
