I got the bolt version. I guess they were made for only a couple of years. It has to be one of the ugliest guns around! And you know what AZSLIM says ... Life's too short for cheap wiskey or ugly guns! My CZ is on the way!

Originals were very reliable. Old Rem ad showed a guy standing with a small mountain of brass, all fired with out cleaning. Story is, Castro used them to fight his way out of the mountains, untill the Russkie's got into the act. Just a nice piece of nostalgia.

And I quote "No greater tribute could be bestowed on any rifle than what it accomplished in the hands of Tom Frye, trick shooter and field representative for Remington. In 1959, to break Ad Topperwein's world record of hitting 72,500, 2-1/2" wooden blocks thrown into the air, Frye used three Model 66's to hit 100,004 wooden blocks out of 100,010 thrown. To do it, Frye shot 1,000 shots an hour, eight hours a day, for 13 consecutive days without one malfunction or misfire. That's rimfire reliability!"

They'd be cheap if they still made em, just like marlin 60's would be exspensive if they didn't make them anymore.

Cheaper than a 60, less parts, more plastic, more stamped sheet metal, etc.

We grew up on a 12, I recently rescued it from my brother. Alas it's no beauty queen, but still shoots true.

They are ugly but $1200??? Now I have to admit my Nylon 11 is not in new condition but I would certainly consider a trade for a nice over/under? ;)

Well bought one today for $175, maybe paid $25 too much. Saw a like NIB at Cabelas for $399 a year ago and thought that was high, but checking gunbroker, that might have been a deal.

Supposedly the trappers loved them because they were so reliable and due to the nylon construction imparting lubricity to the moving parts, no oil to freeze up in arctic temperatures.

They made over a million of them, but many came from an age when people still used guns hard.

This was the first plastic receiver decades before the Glock.

Condition is very similar to this one including the sling mounts which were either a factory option (uncommon) or available from Remington as a set.

I had one of the magazine fed Model 10s, sold it long ago. Still have a couple of the magazine marked 10, they fit my left hand 581. Mine would jam with Remington Golden ullets, but worked decent with other stuff. My 581 shoots way more accurately.
