Anyone here load them? I just acquired 2 50 count boxes of the Barnes TSX in .308 150gr. I load with IMR 4895 powder. For .30-06sprg bolt action. Looking for some base numbers on these, I picked up the Laymans reloading manual at the recommendation of the local gun shop and it only has loads for other 150gr projectiles.

I have a friend who loves the 7mm 150gr Barnes out of his Browning A-Bolt.
Me myself will never buy a Barnes product, because Barnes is really all for the "lead bullet ban". [smilie=icon_evil.gif]

I looked at that but did not find any IMR4895 listed, there is however an "H4895" listed. Not sure on the differences of the powder or if that was a typo.

Disclaimer: Use at your own risk.

This is just a suggestion from a computer.
I ran this with a 20" barrel, a longer one will get you more speed but not change the pressure.
Double check this info with some other internet ninja.

Thanks,
Russ

They are almost the same powder. Both started out as a canister version of mil-surp 4895, and both are in the burning rate of the mil-surp version. Since these are canister powders and produced half a world apart (IMR in Canada and H in Australia) they are not exactly the same though.

H4895 is very slightly faster than IMR4895. Some loading manuals will state that they are different powders other manuals (Speer) say to use the data interchangeably.

Since IMR is slightly slower, you can safely substitute IMR for the H version. If substituting H for IMR you want to reduce you loads by around 2%.

Makes sense now, thank you for that information. I am going to load up a few rounds and slowly increase the load till I find the sweet spot that my gun likes. Thanks again everyone.

Well, I loaded up a few at 50grains of IMR 4895, I usually load and shoot a 150grain Sierra Game King with that charge, these damn things are all over the place at 100yards.

Follow Barne's recommendation about seating depth and it should get a lot better. Look it up but I think they recommend starting at .050 off the lands.
