So I went firing with a friend today and he had bought a new M&P .40 cal single stack handgun. Says he never had a problem with about 100 rounds already down the pipes over the last three weeks. Here is a picture of the jam on feeding.

I took the pistol down, oiled and cleaned it, then oiled it again. Same problem. Asked if this was new ammo and he said he used it before.

Any thoughts?

Is the pistol 100% stock?

Has any tune up been done to the springs or feed ramp?

What is the bullet profile?

From looking at the pic, the front contact is with the lip of the bullet / edge of case and the top of ramp / chamber ledge.

From what was said, the first 100 rounds ran fine then the FTC started.
Of the 3 things that happen in 100 rounds (springs get weaker, slide moves faster and feed lips widen) I would first look at trying another magazine.
Reason being, If the feedlips widened slightly causing the nose of the bullet to start a little higher, rather than hitting and launching off the feed ramp, the round got hit from behind and high by the slide and drove the sharp shoulder into the ramp chamber ledge.
Another mag with a narrower feedlip would confirm this if it ran fine.

Yep, all stock, no modifications, simple .40 factory loads. My friend is sending it back to S&W to fix the issue (which appears to be an on-going issue since 2012 with that type of pistol)

S&W has always treated me good and always fixed whenever I sent something back, without a return trip,... they should end his problems.

Could be as simple as his grip on the pistol. Could be limp wristing it and not even aware of it. That or try ammo with a little more power.

Being the pistol was sent back to S&W in November, what problem did they find?
