I'm building a 9mm AR15 using a Palmetto State Armory kit on a Stealth Arms 80% receiver. When I install the mag catch it doesn't protrude far enough into the magwell to engage the magazine.

I've checked the fit of the 9mm insert, and there is no interference. I have filed material off the underside of the mag catch to get it to engage deeper. No luck. I'm thinking my problem might be a combination of the lower receiver being slightly out of spec and the added thickness caused by the 9mm mag insert.

I've searched the web for a slightly thicker mag catch to no avail. I think that would be the perfect solution to my problem.

Opinions?

Thanks!

I recently built the near same 9mm combo (except a Anderson Arms AR 15 lower), the rest was the Palmentto 9mm complete kit - the lower.... No problems whatsoever. I'm not familiar with any problems with a mag release... Maybe a guru will post???...There isn't a lot of mag engagement (looks like .050/.060). Could it be the mag?...I think I saw that some of the UZI style mags need the "slot" lengthened?... (probably on U Tube).

The mag seems to fit snugly, but the mag catch just does not protrude far enough into the receiver. I tried both the PSA supplied mag catch and an Anderson ars part.

I think Spikes makes a "9mm" mag catch that is a bit thicker in the area that engages the magazines. Its probably a bit of tolerance stack. Alternately you might be able to have someone mill the inside of the mag catch slot to gain you a bit of depth.

I'm not sure what happened. I took everything apart, cleaned and de-burred all the parts, and re-assembled. Somehow it all works now. Maybe the 9mm insert was a hair out of alignment? Hell its working now, I'm happy! Thanks for the suggestions!

Hallelujah!!!

My 9 went together perfectly and has been so reliable it has been scary. But it seemed like every thread I read, anywhere, they were basically cursed. And I use the "crappy" ASC mags to boot.

Hope yours runs 100%!!

Stag ships their 9mm rifles with the ASC magazines, no issues with mine so far.

I had very weak ejection and every third round would flip around backwards and smash up against the next round in the magazine. I installed a reduced power buffer spring and it eats and ejects everything except aluminum cased Blazer. So far, I'm happy with the results.

tune the ejector as close to the cut out in the bolt face that you can to fix the weak ejection

As long as it is working now, you should be gtg. Like I said, I built mine and was suprised how well it turned out. And they are fun as can be to boot!!!

Shooting 9mm in a big pistol/small rifle feels like shooting 22, but reminds ya you could maybe take down a critter if ya had too. I think the wife and I are over 1200 rds so far, and to be honest I think I have cleaned it twice. It still runs. Very happy I finally built one.

Have fun with your new toy!!!!!
