I had an oddball .556 barrel needing the .625 dia gas block. I wanted to upgrade to a free floating keymod forend but couldn't find the low profile gas block. So instead of spending 40$ on a piece of steel I Fixed it this way

Took the old front sight and cut it up, drilled and tapped the underside for hex set screws and blued the bare steel. Kinda redneck and not really pretty but it'll work.

Looks good enough to me. It will serve its intended purpose. That's all that matters.

Why not cut it in place so you can keep it pinned?

Custom barrel nut requires it come off anyway.

It is pretty much covered by the float tube so if it is not pretty but works who cares?
