I'm thinking of putting another together, but before I get a receiver/rivets/etc. on order, does anyone still have the rivet tools that could help me out? I won't need to mess with the headspace; just rivets.

the price of rivet kits are almost as expensive as buying a Century made AK. I made an AK using a NODAK Spud receiver and a Polish underfolder kit when you could get them for like $150.

Having the same rivet smushing problem, I went the screw method. I used a screw kit. NOW, many will poo poo that and rant and rave about how they suck etc, and what have you. I will tell you, that it held up to many many many rounds of brass and steel cased ammo. I would say that I probably put close to 2K rounds through it over the years I had it. ONLY problem i ever had was I pressed the front sight slightly off center and it was a a bitch. so I left it alone. Then the whole Crimea invasion happened, they stopped importing parts, and 7.62x39 went stupid expensive so I sold it.

if you know a machinist, they can probably fabricate a smusher for you, or you can try the bolt cutter method which was an epic fail for me. but the screw kit and red lock tite worked wonderfully for me.

I did one using the bolt cutter method with the heads from Toth Engineering. Worked fine. Still shooting it.
You may have to modify the bolt cutter to get it to be deep enough to engage but that isn't difficult to do.

Funny. I got my front sight slightly off also. Installed a forend with a rail and used a red dot.

Good that you have found the right tools to use. I would hate to see anyone use screws in place of the proper rivets which is a sure sign of a amateur and dangerous.
