Sadly life intruded on my little piece of heaven down here in the valley and a work related move to the nightmare they call Chicago is looming large on my horizon. To those of you who know my story let's just say that plans changed.

I have bought and sold items from/to many of you, and without exception I have found the members here to be good people who were a pleasure to deal with not to mention fine ambassadors for firearms owners in these difficult times that we live in. I will miss Arizona very much and I just wanted to say thanks to all of you.

Where abouts are you going to live?

I’m away from the city - up in a little village called Lincolnshire, it has none of the “problem children” so crime is almost unheard of up here, at least according to my neighbors.

Firearms ownership here isn’t anywhere near as bad as I was led to believe. It certainly has its oddities and some pain though - you have to register for a FOID card and the state police have a fixed length of time to issue or deny your application, with mine they granted it 24 hours before the deadline expired - I got the impression they do this deliberately to keep guns out of your possession for as long as possible. Without a FOID card you cannot handle a gun in a gun store or even go shooting at a range - the last quirk is that you must retain your firearm bill of sale for 10 years by state law. There is also a waiting period on new purchases (different periods for long guns and pistols) but apart from all that BS I can own as many firearms as I choose, there are no magazine or ammunition restrictions, no firearm types are restricted, and best of all they have “shall issue” concealed carry permits after 2 days of mandatory training. Don’t get me wrong, it’s nowhere near as good as Arizona, but I can own anything I want and I can carry concealed - so it’s not too bad.

Just don’t get me started on the weather, the condition of the roads, the people, the way they drive, the prices, or their obsession with 4 inch thick pizza pies.

Funny coincidence...there is a guy over on AKFiles who is moving from Chicago to AZ. He wants to live in Phoenix but several of us are trying to talk him into more rural areas.
