Finally got to chrono some of my loads, 95 yds, 1 shot every 10 seconds to keep LabRadar chrony going. Rifle is a DD AR15 lower w/ Radical Firearms 24" Upper shot from a rest.
Upper left 123gr AMax 27gr AR-Comp 2.23, 2566fps
Lower left 100gr AMax 27.5gr AR-Comp 2.23, 2742fps
Middle 100gr AMax 28gr AR-Comp 2.23, 2776fps
Upper Right Wolf Steel Case 100gr FMJ, 2824fps
Lower Right same as 1st load above
So far what load is to your liking
So the goal for last weekend was to get velocity numbers on what I had built so far so I could plug them into Strelock (ballistic calculator app). I am working towards two loads, first is a lighter projectile for shooting between 100-300yds w/ no wind. The 100gr projectiles are also roughly .10 cheaper per than the 123's so the light load will also be easier on the wallet. Second load I am looking for is a heavier projectile load (123gr in this case) for 300+ yds w/wind or shorter ranges w/ wind.
The 27gr AR-Comp over a Hornady 123gr Amax is almost a 1 hole load at 100 yards in my semi-auto so that is my load to test at 300yds next weekend. I am pretty confident it is dialed so I just need to do my part. Time to get out the bipod and shooting mat.
The lighter load is still up in the air. Was shooting to get velocities last weekend so I was not taking my time (I was also shooting from a plastic table). The two 100gr loads I worked up look pretty good and are approximately the same group size as my reference 123gr load when shooting quickly. Next step is to shoot them prone w/ bipod and shooting mat. From what I have read, AR-Comp is not the best for lighter projectiles so I still have some 8208 loads I want to chrono. A lot of people claim a 29.7gr load is their go to for 100gr projectiles. Will be testing some of those this weekend.
