So has anybody bought one of these? I cant find any real opinions on the boards. Just wondering if these are any good. I assume it is a US made forged frame and slide? It would be nice to have someone making a 1911 that is a few bucks less then the colt but not cheesy like the Taurus. Maybe a good base for building if it is a forged frame and slide.

They are so new I doubt anyone has any yet.

At the price, US made/forged would be highly unlikely, but I could be wrong.

I shot one a few weeks ago at the Tucson Mountain Park range. It has one of the finest "factory" triggers I've ever shot. Other than that, it is pretty much a Gov't style 1911 with some good enhancements. In the hand, it feels just like my 1942 Ithaca. The guy had two or three mags and one mag was definitely not feeding properly but that's not real unusual.

Its on my short list for a new full-size 1911. As a point of reference, I shoot a Colt Defender a lot and the trigger on it was not as "clean/crisp" as the R1!

Not 100% sure, but I think the entire gun is manufactured and assembled at Remington's plant in Ilion, NY.

This has been out for some time now. Still haven't seen one myself, but the early reviews in all the gun rags I've read were unanimous in describing it as overpriced and basic, with fit and finish comparable to the average Filipino 1911 - far less than should be expected of Remington.

I haven't shot one, but I did play with one recently...very tight fit for a factory, the one I fingered was one of the best slide/frame fits I have seen from a factory. Trigger was a little spongy, but much better than a similarly priced Springfield. If I were going to choose a "basic" 1911, the R1 would be top choice. It still has a "GI" look, but with better sights (that can be changed) and a better trigger. The price I saw was $650.

I had the opportunity to handle one, fit and finish was reasonable, not what I'd expected from the big R, but it shot well, no feed problems trigger was acceptable, meaning much better than a colt factory, (and I'm not a colt fan), as for value, expensive I thought, why pay an extra couple c notes for a name. But I'm a cheap guy.
I will say, if and when ones comes across my path at a decent price, I will add it to the wall.

I've seen about 20 if them for sale since they came out and everyone of them has that lousy, ill-fit grip safety with the "ledge" sticking out at the top of the grip. I have disassembled/inspected several of them and I don't see any reason to buy one of these "R-1's" over a lower price Rock Island, American Classic or most of the other lower priced 1911's.

The R-1 is a "hack job" 1911; Remington's attempt to make a profit on an overpriced pistol without putting the quality into it that they should. They are trading on their name and it has been embarrassed with this "ham handed" foray into the 1911 market.

It is not worth the asking price.

I dont like building on a super cheap all pot metal gun like a Rock Island. Some people dont mind them but I dont want to go that cheap. If the Remington is forged steel I may pick one up when a used one comes my way

Arent they cast? Made in the Phillipines? = potmetal
