The problem with all existing Uzi optics mounts is they attach to the dust cover, sit too high or both. Dissatisfied with the options available I pursued having something better made:

I took an old SST-870 rail section and had our machinist do all the mods to it to sit around the front sight. He drilled and tapped the receiver for an 8-32 screw in the back and it is pinned in on the sides on the front. Probably more gunsmithing than most people would want to deal with, but I believe it will suit my purposes best. I did have the rail left slightly higher than the iron sights, I don't like cramming my face down on the stock so hard.

I'll be putting an Aimpoint T1 on it and running this at Ironman in June.

I like that!

If you have a close up picture of the side that shows how it was pinned I would love to see it. Did he drill the front sight blade into the rail and drive in a roll pin? Going to have to look at mine and check it out.

Yes, drilled both sides through the ears and pinned in place.

Sinistral, I'm one of the Admins at UziTalk. Would you be willing to post these pics over there and explain more about your setup?

The membership will definitely be interested if you're willing to share.

Mike

There are days I kick myself for not buying a presample Mini Uzi (s/n #0002). This is one of them.

Nice setup!

It's at the perfect height without having to jam my face down on the stock to see through it. The normal cheek weld tends to beat up my face and make me shoot slower

Sighting it in later this week, using it at the ACTS match the 3rd Saturday, and then at Ironman if everything is working and I feel comfortable with it by then.

Wow, thats pretty neat. I just got an Uzi and I am really happy with how the iron sights work, but this is the first Uzi mount that I have ever seen that I don't hate. Further ahead and off the dust cover is a great idea.
