My friend has a FAL built by Big50 years ago. He wants to sale it and dropped it off at my house, but neither him nor I know anything about it. Can someone give us some info on this fine weapon and an estimate on what it is worth? He has 3 mags and it was just refinished by AZEK.

R1A1 would seem to indicate use of a South African kit, as the SAs referred to their FALs as the R1.

Looks very similar to my old Type 3 Imbel receiver and Imbel kit components, aka Imbel/Imbel. AFAIK, "R1A1" is nomenclature originated by Century as a takeoff to the SA R1 designation mentioned above. This rollmark is found on numerous uppers (with or without the gear logo) CAI sold over the years, and commonly used in myriad kit builds. Furniture looks like US-made Penguin. Imbel kit builds are the most difficult to value unless we know its provenance and what's in it. I've seen them range from $600 - $1200, seriously.

That rifle was built by century arms. Its a common version they built based off a metric R1. Its one of the earlier ones with a imbel receiver which makes it worth more then a later century receiverd one.
