Phoenix leaders and residents are planning to hold three anti-violence walks in the South Mountain and Maryvale neighborhoods on Saturday.
Also, at a related event, Phoenix police plan to offer $50 gift cards to residents who turn in firearms.
The weekend activities are part of a city campaign to decrease gun violence, city spokesman Michael Hammett said.
There is "community interest to get the message out there about ending random violence and shootings," Hammett said.
Faith groups and City Council members, including Tom Simplot, Michael Nowakowski and Michael Johnson, will participate in the 1-mile Steps to Stop Gun Violence walks.
On the same day, Phoenix police will accept guns from people who wish to turn them in anonymously. No questions will be asked, Hammett said.
Guns will be accepted at four locations, but there is a limited supply of gift cards. The cards will be given out on a first-come, first-serve basis, the spokesman said.
It was unclear what kind of gift cards would be distributed, but Hammett said that the gift cards would be for Phoenix retailers.
This the second year that the city has held events for the Keep Your Family Safe campaign. Last year, police collected 122 firearms.
