Here is what we have in store for you at Rio Salado during March:

3-Gun (Multi-Gun) Match: Saturday March 9th
Registration opens at 8am, with first shots shortly thereafter. New shooters should come in time to attend the New Shooter Orientation at 8:30am before they shoot. We run this match under IMA rules. To get a feel for what to expect, check out these videos from our previous matches. Our usual format is 3 short-range shotgun and/or rifle stages, plus 1 long-range rifle stage. Bring 150 rounds of rifle ammo, 50 shotgun birdshot (#6 or smaller) and box each of shotgun slugs and buckshot (12ga=00 buck, 20ga=#3 buck). Sometimes we incorporate a few pistol shots into the stages, so a pistol/holster/ammo can be useful, but this is always optional (typically the same targets can be engaged by rifle or shotgun instead).

Once again this month, as a response to the current ammo shortages, we will be allowing competitors to use .22LR or pistol caliber rifles on the close-range rifle stages (of course a centerfire rifle will still be needed to activate the targets on the long-range rifle stage, and both rifles will still need to comply with all other equipment rules for the competitor's chosen division). We will also give an option to use pistol instead of shotgun on one stage.

Coming to your first match can be daunting, but rest assured you are completely welcome no matter your skill level or equipment - just take it easy and concentrate on being safe. If you have any questions, post them here. Anyone who wants me to walk them through their first match, stage by stage, shoot me an IM and I will be more than happy to do so.

Tactical .22 Rifle Match: Tuesday March 12th
Registration opens at 5pm, with first shots shortly thereafter. Location is the Smallbore Range right behind the Activity Center. The rules are simple: it's a straight time match with penalties for misses. Pretty much any .22 rifle is OK - the most popular guns are AR15-clones and Ruger 10/22s. We have two divisions: iron sight and optical sight. Our typical match format is practical run-n-gun style: one "long range" stage out to 100yards, and two shorter range hoser stages (one of them shot twice for 4 stages total). Check out this trailer and this Dillon Blue Press article for a flavor of what we do. This match is more fun than a barrel of monkeys... bring a bulk pack of cheap ammo and you will leave with a smile a mile wide.

Superstition Mountain Mystery 3-Gun Match: Friday March 22nd - Sunday March 24th
This is one of the premiere 3-Gun matches in the nation, and is a great opportunity to find out what 3-Gun competition is all about - definitely not to be missed. The match filled up long ago, but spectators are welcome to come and watch the best shooters in the world competing on 11 spectacular stages, and to visit/shop at the vendor exhibition tent. There will also be an exciting team side-match on Sunday afternoon. Lastly, we will be raffling 3 fantastic guns: a POF .308 piston rifle with scope, a JP .223 match rifle with EO Tech, and a fully loaded Remington Versa Max Tactical shotgun.

Tactical .22 Rifle Match: Tuesday March 26th
Same format as the March 12th match above.

REMINDER: At Saturday's 3-Gun match we will be allowing .22LR rifles on the close-range rifle stages to minimize the consumption of expensive centerfire rifle ammo. The match will still be a lot of fun, with a few new twists. Here is an overview of the stages we are planning to build:

Stage 1 will be long-range rifle as usual (centerfire rifle required)
Stage 2 will be rifle or shotgun, depending on the likely weather conditions... nobody likes taping paper targets in the rain
Stage 3 will be an interesting pistol/rifle/shotgun option - pick any TWO
Stage 4 will be shotgun with steel and a few flying clays

If you choose to shoot shotgun on Stage 3 you will need at least 3 slugs.

UPDATE: The 3-Gun match stages are built. Given the 30% chance of rain, we built Stage 2 as a shotgun stage with falling steel. We only have 5 paper targets in the whole match. Stage diagrams are shown below:
