Who all is going to the Big Sandy MG shoot 3/30-4/1? I'll be in spot 44. This shoot is in memory of Bob Faris who sadly passed away this past February [smilie=icon_sad.gif]

I've been to the last 7 shoots (judging by the Shooter badges on the fridge). Only saw the tank at the last one. Nat Geo filmed the whole 2 days last time. The "Dutch Film Crew" (actually a brothel owner and her associates [smilie=anim_bannana.gif] ) was interesting a few shoots ago. The Russian billionaire (think he owns a sports franchise in Phx) was quite entertaining, before that. I do know they have loaded some of Bob's ashes in a few arty shells for a ceremony. They also plan to put the remainder of them on the largest Tannerite and gasoline explosion yet.

Saturday is the big day. Get there before 9AM. The Night Shoot is legendary. Lots of TNT, Tannerite, Fireworks and RC airplanes.

I can't understand shooting events that do not allow people to carry their own sidearm. You trust these people will cannons, tanks, and full auto weapons but not to carry a handgun?

If I can get over that, it looks like a lot of fun, I've never been.

Bob Dorance (?I think) and his tank destroyer with 57mm main gun...

Used to be ok in the days of the 'Dry Creek' Shoots (same basic outfit, different name)...then Idan Greenberg shot himself in the leg with his holstered gun...that's when the rule started...

I talked to Idan about that once. Seems he was carrying his USGI 1911A1 with a round in the chamber and the hammer down, strapped in a quick draw type holster. While trying to get through the side door of a camper, he brushed the door frame with the holstered pistol, BANG! Despite what you think, Cocked & Locked is obviously superior. I missed the real time drama but caught the after transport report. I was told it was caught on the guy wire of one of the shade covers. Wire half cocked the hammer and then seared. I always have found the explantion of hammer down on a live round a bit hard to believe. Idan above all (ever heard him do a multi-hour safety briefing?) should know better than to carry in that condition, but on the other hand, nothing else made sense....

Couple pics from the night shoot (Rob took these)... it was a great time except for the wind that came in Saturday. Did pretty good at the matches even after twisting my damn ankle jumping into the trench at a full run... :s
