Blame Ney for Waterloo not Napoleon. Attacking with the Heavy Cav and no infantry support

I don't see why posting in a spam thread would stop anything or affect anything. I report spam threads when I see them, but posting in one would be an irrelevant thing utterly and completely. Is there a reason that is eluding me?

Yes. It prevents my "delete user" function from killing the thread. It multiples the work by 10x.

You could save yourself half your time back just by posting only once for the same thing:-)

Oh. Good to know. I always thought it was fun to report spam, then immediately post something idiotic in it for no good reason. My bad.

Not sure anyone should be claiming a victory over the spammers when I continue to see new spam posts almost every day still. I guess my idea of requiring a certain number of posts in other members threads before a new member can post a new thread is unworkable or too much trouble to set up. Another idea anyone?

Well they see us as a target audience. Take away their audience and their way to reach them. Maybe all the spammers should be banned and no new members welcomed for a week or two. Maybe they'll move on?

Ahhh. OK. Perhaps you should post a sticky with a title saying "Do not reply to spam threads...or else" with the new rule and punishment.
