I had the day off today and went on a gun shop safari to see what is new. New up is the Gun Depot on Power and University in Mesa.

I was impressed, and found the store filled with great deals, no crap or space fillers. There were somethings like the 686 (pre-lock square butt) that I had not seen in a decade and would be lucky to find on gun broker. There were not many guns I would not want to have.

I traded in a rifle on a handgun, and good to their word, a price tag immediately went up for $50 over my trade in value. (They price guns $50 over cost because you make money in selling/ turning inventory quickly and not by having inventory hang on walls. I picked up one of the "rarities" on the shelf.

Here is my rating:

Customer Service: 5/5

Greeted when I came in the door. Employees (owners) knowledgeable about all items, polite, helpful and no b.s. answers. Eager and assertive to help customers.

Cleanliness: 5/5

Inventory well presented, neat store, easy to view all products. Glass and floors clean. Spaces clean.

Selection: 5/5

Although they are smaller than some of the larger stores, the entire selection was filled with things I would want to own. Vast selection of ammo calibers and types. Magazines and quality holsters are available and are competitively priced. What is lost in shop size is more than regained in the quality of products.

Pricing: 5/5

The guns are priced to sell and are all excellent buys. The ammo is competitively priced (even with Wal-Mart). They have bricks of .22lr!!!!!!

Other Notes:

*West of Power Road on University. If you are taking the 60 or 202, you may want to get off the 202 on University, and take University past Power.

*This is a shop you will want to visit frequently, I was there about an hour and saw the inventory change by about 10 firearms.

*The $50 over cost for pricing is for real and not b.s. I witnessed them take in an AR-15 at $500 and put it on the wall at $550 (good deal for anyone looking for a nice AR cheap)

*Someone must have opened a lifelong collection because there are things like the nice S&W revolvers there in abundance, that you just don't find in stores anymore, but I don't know how long they will last.

I was totally impressed, especially for a brand new store. While you're there, talk to Brownie about the classes he teaches. I took one two years ago and learned more than I had in many years of shooting. Just wish it were closer to me!

I saw this post and decided to visit and I must say I was very, very impressed. Brownie greeted me and we talked about the shop, his business model and guns. I asked about a STI Spartan and he said he could get me one. He called STI and is now a dealer and then he called me with a price. Yes, actually called me after I left the store.

Now, I live in the East Valley and I have been looking for a quality gun store with a knowledgeable staff that won't pester you like a car salesman. Here it is gentlemen. Look no further.

FFL Transfer $15 bucks?? Yes, that's the price. Make a run by there and see for yourself.
